THE GOSPEL IS FOR ALL

Matthew 28:19 *Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit* ( NIV).

After the completion of examination during my undergraduate years, I embarked on personal evangelism to a village known as Ogbesse. It is close to the boundary between Edo state and Ondo state.

I did not tell anyone where I was going. I boarded a vehicle and went there on my own. When I got there, I decided I will preach from house-to-house. I covered all the houses along the length of the road.

I saw a corner where few houses were and I saw  few children playing but there was this particular house that was different. I saw a woman cladded in white like a priestess. Obviously, she was a priestess.

I approached her to share the gospel with her. Those around looked on in amazement and were surprised at my audacity. I am sure the woman too was surprised because she was feared greatly in the village as I perceived but I knew I carried a greater power than she had.

As I greeted her and introduced myself, she said, "I be Ogbanje". If my memory won't fail me, she also worships the river deity. In fact, she walked out on me and left for the river that day. Why did I share this story?

Sometimes, when we go out on evangelism, we are bound to meet people that no one want to get close to. Those that are feared by their neighbours.  Please, don't be hesitant to share the gospel with such people. They need it.

Some of us prefer to share the gospel with those whose faces are cool and calm. The moment you see those guys whose faces are weird in looks probably due to drugs, we refrain and shun them. It shouldn't be.

As a young believer back in the days, my church evangelist will take us to streets where bad boys were. With hemp, cigarette and alcohol in their hands, we'll walk up to them and preach. Most of them look weird but they have a heart that yearns to be free.

Behind those weird looks is someone yearning to be free. Some of them resorted into drugs because they are looking for deliverance but they did not meet you on time to show them the right path.

During my NYSC year, occasionally, I led the brethren to a popular red light district where we preached to prostitutes. It is rare to find believers who want to preach the gospel to this class of people yet they need it.

No matter how weird or bad some people are, tell them about Christ and trust God to touch their hearts. They are one of those Christ died for.

Action Point:

During evangelism, do not be selective.
