I observed that truth does not matter to some Christians as long as the person peddling error is a "big" preacher with visible results. In fact, some don't believe such men can be wrong. The believe is that he must have heard it from God. This is one thing Satan is using to fight the truth in our time.
It appears to me that when Satan want to sponsor an error in the body, he uses a big and influential preacher people will listen to without searching the scriptures. The believe is that a household name cannot be wrong. That stance is dangerous. No man is infallible regardless of height reached.
When the truth comes to fore, the very first thing you'll hear is "If he is wrong, why has God blessed him and his ministry and make him so big"? They use the wrong metric to measure who is right or wrong. This shows our generation have idolized result and men with result and have shifted loyalty from Christ and his kingdom.
If "Satan" is pulling crowd and still calls it church, millions will follow because of the idol called "result".
I am not against result. I don't want to come across as one who hates good things. I love godly result. I believe one can have quantity and still have quality. However, quantity and visibility due to result is by election of grace and it is not the measure of right standing with God neither is it a measure of doctrinal accuracy. One may work so hard for it but God decides who becomes visible. That is why our pursuit must not be visibility but Christ.
In Nigeria, it is almost becoming like a "curse" If you are not big in ministry. Acceptance in some places might be low. It is no longer "blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord" but "blessed is he that has visible results". What about missionaries labouring in rustic villages? The chances of becoming big and visible is practically impossible yet some of them are labouring there faithfully. Do we call such men failures?
In fact, If you preach some messages, some persons may not believe what you say until a popular preacher say the same thing. This is the reason "Another Gospel" thrives. You may lose friends(even in ministry) for taking your stand on some issues. They may not invite you. The obsession to associate with men of visible result has made some to sacrifice the truth. They invite just anyone to preach on their pulpit.
The day that popular preacher preaches another gospel and you put the issue in the right biblical perspective convincingly, they'll choose to believe their "idol" instead of the truth you have spoken. I have been a victim of this even from a close colleague.
As believers, our loyalty should be to Christ and his truth first before giving our loyalty to men. Blind loyalty to men because of result will lead us astray and we may become guilty of the sins of those we are following. We are to follow men as they follow Christ not following them into error.
Apostle Paul says, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ*" (1 Corinthians 11:1 NIV). This is Paul talking here. The implication of his statement is that If I stop following Christ, stop following me. Don't be blind to the truth that you now follow me into my error because of result.
Our lives should be about what the bible teaches not what a popular preacher says. I
