MY MUSINGS LATELY* Pt.3

2 Corinthians 13:5 *Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified*.

THE PREACHING OF MAMMON

Lately, I have heard some Mammon inspired preachings and teachings that are slapping to the ears. While trying to preach biblical prosperity, materialism and Mammon is being preached to the people. Unfortunately, the undiscerning swallow it hook line and sinker because those who are preaching it have "results". This is another problem I hope to address later. Most believers have been conditioned to believe anything because it coming from a man with "results".

Making statements( paraphrased) like: "Poverty is a sign that a man is living in sin and wealth is a sign that one is in the good books of God", this is frontal attack on the gospel. Such statements from the pulpit will make people desperate for wealth since it has become the yardstick for measuring spirituality and good relationship with God.

Kenneth E.Hagin of blessed memory wrote a book to correct some of these errors before he died. Please, get the book: Midas Touch. It is one of the most balanced book I have ever read on the subject of prosperity. No one loves poverty, yet we must place these things in the right biblical context so we don't make people to pursue wealth criminally.

Another one that shook me was when I heard that poverty was the reason Jesus died. The preacher alluded to the fact that Judas wouldn't have betrayed Jesus for money If not for poverty. Upon hearing this, I knew Mammon was being preached.

Do you know what the bible says about the death of Christ? Revelation 13:8 says, "All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, THE LAMB WHO WAS SLAIN FROM THE CREATION OF THE WORLD". Ever before Judas or any human was created, God predestined Christ to die for the sins of mankind. His death was planned by God, it wasn't occasioned by poverty.

The spirit of Mammon will twist scriptures and bible events just to draw the hearts of people away from the true gospel of Christ and his kingdom and will stir people to pursue mundane things even if it will cost them to compromise their stand. This is the bane of modern preaching today. One can build a big ministry on the principles of Mammon and then appear to all as though God is involved.

Luke 12:15 says,  "And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth".

Mammon gospel will only produce believers who are earthly conscious, materialistic and unspiritual. They will care less about eternity.  A preacher driven by Mammon will do anything to get money into the church even If it entails manipulation, coercion and engaging in shady deals. Mammon will make you receive money from those whose monies and gifts you should reject.

Dearest, beware of listening to those whose teachings draw your heart to earthly things only. Christ's message was kingdom centred. Any message that is not pointing you to the kingdom and kingdom life style is not for your consumption.

Preachers, let's judge ourselves on the motive of our ministry lest we become a servant of Mammon instead of Christ's servant.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money"( Matthew 6:24).

Action Point:

Father, deliver me from the spirit of Mammon In Jesus name.
