Eccl5:4 When you make a promise to God, don't delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him.(5) it is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it. NLT
I have been under several ministrations where a preacher would compel people to make a vow to God about a certain amount of money or what they'll do for God (even though I'm not in support of that idea of compelling people to vow because there's a better way to commit people), in most cases, I'll see many rushing out to make pledges. In most cases, they don't redeem their pledges.
It is not only in monetary terms alone, before you open your mouth to make a promise to God, you have to think it through and be sure you can fulfil it. One good lesson we can learn from the scripture above is that we shouldn't make commitment we cannot fulfil either to God or man. Do you know that infidelity in marriage is a breaking of the vow you made on the altar?
In front of the whole church, you promised to nurture your wife, care for her and do all sort, are you doing that?
It is better to say nothing when you know you don't have the capacity to do what you have said. If you have made promises to God on certain things and you're yet to fulfil them, please redeem your vows immediately.
Father, remind me of vows I've made to you and help me to fulfil them In Jesus name. Amen
