AVOID SELF PRAISE AND PRAISE SINGERS

October 30, 2016 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Proverbs27:2 Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth— a stranger, not your own lips. NLT

When you listen to politicians during political campaigns, the issue of self-praise is very rife even when what they're claiming to have done is not seen or felt by the people. Also, the syndrome of self-praise is also manifesting amongst some preachers and children of God maybe to win people's heart to themselves and gain support.

Whatever God is doing through you, all the praises must go to God. Self-praise arises from pride, competition and sometimes wanting to gain people's confidence. You don't need all that, whatever you're doing or that God is doing through you would be evident to all without you talking much about it. Another thing that is similar to self-praise is when a man surrounds himself with praise-singers. Praise-singers know how to massage a man's ego.

Even when you want to stay humble, when you listen to praise-singers like Herod did, they may offer you pride on a platter of gold and sink you if you're not careful. Compliments are good but not necessary, unnecessary compliments after performing a feat for God may get you stocked on the same point. When you're meant to be making progress, you'll be moving in a circle which is not progress.

Whatever God is doing through you, return the glory to Him and avoid self-praises and praise singers.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to stay humble In Jesus name.
