2Tim4:10 Demas has deserted me because he loves the things of this life and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus has gone to Dalmatia. NLT
Demas was one of Paul's companions. He was part of his apostolic ministry. He was a co-labourer with Paul as it was recorded in the bible (Colossians4:14, Philemon1:24). Later, he backslided and deserted Paul because he loved the 'things of this present world. He left Paul and went to Thessalonica.
What is unique about Thessalonica? If you read through your bible, certain portions made it clear that Thessalonica was a place where people do not know God neither do they regard Him (Acts17:3). Infact, when Paul was in Thessalonica on ministerial assignment, Thessalonicans didn't support his ministry because that wasn't a place where you'll preach&collect honorarium(Philippians4:16). It is a place where you'll preach the truth with bold face and leave without collecting a dime as a minister.
Thessalonica is symbolic of this present world that would pass away very soon. Do not be a Demas that would forsake his Paul for the things of the world(lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh&pride of life). The world is calling children of God to come and have the 'things' she can offer. We must be dead to 'things' of this world so that we can stay on course in our race.
Nothing in this world( money, job, marriage, fame,power, etc) is worth robbing you of heaven. Be dead to things.
Father, I receive grace to stay on course for you In Jesus name. Amen.
