HOME- A DISCIPLESHIP CENTRE
On the day of my convocation in the university, when my parents were about to leave the convocation ground, they prayed in the car. A friend who was with us told me that for over 20years, he never saw his parents pray together neither was he taught God's word at any point in time by his parents. God was proud of Abraham because his house was a discipleship centre. We call God the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob because the generation of Abraham knew the Lord. Why? Abraham discipled Isaac and it continued in successive generation.
We started this series by considering a problem that showed up in Israel in Judges2:10. It was recorded that after the fathers who knew the Lord died, another generation arose that knew not the Lord. One principal reason why the new generation knew nothing about the Lord was because the discipleship link was broken. The generation that knew the Lord failed to disciple their children from home. The home is the primary place where Christian discipleship should start not school or church.
As a minister, i have had several women come to me asking me to handle their wayward children. For some, i gave my counsel but for others i ignored. Why? I see some parents trying to shift their work of training to me. Something they ought to have done when those kids were growing. The devil knows that if he can disconnect the discipleship link in the home, it may be hard to get the job done even in the church. We meet for services in church twice or thrice in a week for few hours but under ideal circumstances parents should live with their children daily. It means parents have more time for discipleship. Don't be too busy to give quality discipleship training in words and deed to your children.
God is expecting your home to be a Christian discipleship centre.
