DON'T BE SATISFIED WITH YESTERDAY- PRESS ON

July 05, 2019 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. NIV

What most of us know about Oliver Twist is that he asked for more. That's why they call some people Oliver Twist because they are never satisfied. They'll always ask for more. While I'm an advocate of contentment in material things, when it comes to spiritual things, I am like Oliver Twist who always ask for more. One of the reasons why we don't grow spiritually is because of complacency and satisfaction with our level of walk with God.

There are people who were used by God and certain manifestations took place. They'll dwell on it and preach it over and over( though not bad) but in the present, we are not seeing anything. What is meant to be a movement has turned to a monument. On the mount of transfiguration, having seen the glory of God, Peter wanted to build three tabernacle to signify their experience but Jesus did not approve the idea( Matt17:4). Once we start building monuments around the things of God, we'll start worshipping our past&previous achievements and stop desiring more of God. Apostle Paul was a rugged Apostle who conquered many grounds for the Lord yet he knew he hadn't gotten to the height God desired of him in ministry.

At the time he said he was pressing on towards the mark of his high calling in Christ and leaving the past behind, he had already written nine epistles and he still wrote another four powerful epistle after that statement. Paul would have built monuments around nine epistles and start celebrating them but he knew that if he pressed deeper in his fellowship with God, he could receive more revelations. Why should you be contented with winning just one soul when you can win millions? Why should you be contented with praying for one sick person when God can use you to empty hospitals? Why should you be contented with Pastoring 100 people when you can Pastor 1000 people?

Action point

Being satisfied with your spiritual level would place a bar on your spiritual growth. To grow spiritually, don't be satisfied with yesterday, desire more of God.
