1Sam30:8 Then David asked the LORD, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the LORD told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”
David and his men returned to their base in Ziklag only to discover that their tent had been raided by Amalekites. The city was burnt with fire and their wives and children were kidnapped. The bible said that David and his gallant warriors cried till there was no strength in them to cry again. Later,they thought of stoning him. The atmosphere was filled with pain, distress and confusion. I am sure most of them did not know the next step to take.These men were warriors who had fought battles and won. Dealing with a band of raiders shouldn't be a problem but the issue on ground was that they did not know exactly what to do. Sometimes, skillful people get confused. Those who appear as strong and wise get confused sometimes. In fact, you may have helped people out of their issues before but when it was your turn, you didn't know what to do.
We all must master the art of handling confusion biblically. As humans, confusion may set in on issues we think we have mastery on. That is why some life coaches who teach on finances, family life and career ran into problem. I listened to a life coach recently. He spoke about how his marriage almost crashed. It took God's intervention to keep his home intact. I know a finance coach who taught people how to run business. He was less than 30 years when he made his first millions. He was a successful businessman but much later, his business empire began to crumble. All of these confirms the word of the preacher when he said, "I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time."(Eccl9:11, NLT).
How did David get out of that state of confusion and distress? He enquired from God about the step he should take. Though he was an experienced warrior and skillful fighter, he forgot about his experience and he turned to the one who knows all things. Do not try to use your experience to figure issues out when you're confused. Switch off the light of human understanding and ask the Lord what the next line of action should be. There are confusing situations where no human code can resolve except by divine idea. After, David received the go ahead to chase the band of raiders, God placed on his path a man that gave him the clue to where he can find his wives and the families of his companion. That's the power of divine direction. God will always lead and place on your path men, women or arrange circumstances that will lead you to the answer if you follow his leading. Learn to ask God questions whenever you're confused and wait on him for instruction. That is the first step.
Father, I need you to guide me on (...insert name). Let your Spirit open my eyes to see and my ears to hear the next line of action in Jesus name. Amen
