Sometimes ago, there was an outbreak of strange practices and heresies among some Christian students on a campus. They were taught they could hear God by eating certain food. The straw that broke the camel's back was when some of them were found in the thick forest on a meaningless adventure. They were trapped by another gospel which is not the gospel of Jesus Christ. They swallowed it hook line and sinker without checking the scriptures. Those brethren made the news because their deviation and heresies were way-off the scriptures.
I researched on why people fall into doctrinal error. I discovered that those who place premium on the esoteric or special encounters above the word of God easily fall into error. They deviate from the word and base their faith on revelations instead of the proper interpretation of what is written in the bible. The Galatian church must have experienced something similar. Paul went as far as saying that God's curse fall on anyone including him or even an angel from heaven if they preach a different gospel. The church from ages past has experienced the rise of proponents who preached and taught another gospel.
Our generation is privileged to have the full bible. The early church had letters of the Apostles but not all. They had the complete old testament bible but they do not have the full compilation of the new testament books. The generation that have full books of the bible is a privileged generation yet the most deceived. Do not rest your theology on what someone saw in a revelation. The wall of visions, prophecies or special encounters is a slippery wall but the word of God properly interpreted and applied is firm and solid. If you build the foundation of your walk with God on the word, you'll never miss it. When someone tells you his/her revelation or prophecy cannot be corroborated with scriptures, such is tainted with error.
