HIS ULTIMATE GOAL

June 10, 2020 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Revelation 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

Most times we are quick to assume certain things for God. The word of God reveals the mind of God to us concerning his plans and goals. It is God's will for mankind to be saved from eternal destruction. However, after salvation, what next? All through the scriptures, God has always desired something from mankind ultimately. When he gave the decalogue, the first on the list says: "WORSHIP no god but me."(GNT) When the time came for the Jews to be delivered from Egyptian slavery, God spoke to Moses saying: "“Go back to Pharaoh,” the LORD commanded Moses. “Tell him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so they can WORSHIP me."(Ex9:1 NLT). God's ultimate goal is that the entire human race will bring him worship.

When Jesus came, he said: "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."(John4:24). That's another clear statement about God's desire. In John's revelation of heaven( 7:9-12), he described the throne room of God to us. There in that throne, he saw peoples from every nation, tribe and tongue doing one thing- giving their worship to God. In heaven, our ultimate duty would be to worship. Unfortunately, that ultimate desire of God is also the ultimate desire of the devil. When Satan tempted Jesus the third time, the bible said: "Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and WORSHIP me."(Mt4:8 KJV). If worship is that important, then what is worship?

Worship is hard to define especially in this age where worship is tied to music. I define worship as the totality of our attitude and action that reverences God and brings glory to him. That is worship. Worship is a lifestyle, it is not a musical concert neither is it a mood. It is common to hear singers in churches make statements like: "let us be in the mood of worship". Worship is beyond that. The moment you start living in the consciousness of what is pleasing to God in all you do, you're worshipping him already. God is looking for men whose entire life would bring him glory.
