SELF-WILLED BELIEVER

A popular bestselling book written years back titled "The Man God Uses" by Oswald J. Smith remains a must-read for every believer who intends to be used by God.

However, it is common to hear people make statements like "God can use anybody." If what is meant is that God can use anybody regardless of race, colour, nationality, past failures, social status, education and income as long as they meet God's requirements for consecration, I totally agree.

Sadly, we also need to know that there are people God cannot use. I'm not saying there are folks God shouldn't use but cannot use. This mean that no matter how hard God tries, He won't be able to use them because they are not the kind of vessels He uses.

The standard of God as regards kingdom service never changes. Paul said: " Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity"( 2 Tim 2:19).

The self-willed believer cannot be used by God. Who is self-willed believer? This is someone who has accepted Jesus as saviour but not as Lord. A Lord always will always want to exercise the right of ownership and authority. That's the place Jesus want to take in our lives.

However, when a believer is self-willed and not pliable in the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ, He cannot be used by God no matter how hard he tries. You cannot desire to be used by God and still want to call the shots. In this kingdom, there is one Lord with many subjects.

Our Lord want to exercise full control, send us to wherever He needs us. He is not looking for subjects who will negotiate terms with Him. Until you come to that point where you can say, "Not my will but yours be done" you can't be used by God.
