STARVE IT TO DEATH

September 19, 2022 · Lanre Oyeleke · 3 views

Col3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

I was once a victim of masturbation. Yes, I masturbated years after I became born again. I was preaching already and I was involved in ministry. This happened four times.

Surprisingly, it never happened to me when I was in the world. I was troubled about it and I began to examine myself to know where I got it wrong.

I discovered I was feeding the flesh with erotic pictures. When flesh became fat, it led me into masturbation. The moment I discovered the trigger, I cut off immediately and I was restored.

Oftentimes, when I counsel those addicted to masturbation, I always recommend that they starve flesh to death.

In your quest for victory over masturbation, there is a place of prayer and the place of right action. Prayer and right action must work together to produce the right result.

The scripture above clearly states that we should mortify fornication and other things. Another word that is akin to mortify is the word kill. When you see that word mortify, other words like mortuary, morgue, mortician comes to mind. They are pointing to the same thing- death.

God's word to you today is that you should identify what triggers masturbation and kill it. Simple as ABC. I don't pray where bible says I should take action. So many Christians love to pray but they fail to do what is expected to complement the prayer. Prayer releases or connect us to the grace to do.

Masturbation just like any other addiction or perversion can be killed if the person is desirous of victory. But how can this be done? Simply starve your flesh of its object of lust.

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life(Galatians 6:8).

Some believers are fond of going to God in tears anytime they fall into the sin of masturbation. Penitence is good but you cannot be praying for victory over masturbation and still be watching pornography or watching nudes and reading erotics. It doesn't work that way.

As long as you know what ' Mr Flesh' delights in, starve the flesh of those things. You don't do it once and stop, it must be done continuously until you gain mastery over it. That's how mortification is achieved.

Action point

What are the things that triggers masturbation that requires mortification? It could be t.v.programmes, certain magazines, pornography etc
