GOD SHOWS NO FAVOURITISM

September 01, 2022 · Lanre Oyeleke · 125 views

Acts10: 34 Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism.35 In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right.

When some church folks share their testimonies, several times I've heard them make statements like: "I'm God's favourite." Even some ministers of God have said this statement before on the altar to their congregation.

I have always imagined a scenario where someone in the church is battling with rejection and condemnation and a preacher or testifier comes to the altar to say: "hey! amongst you all, God loves me more than you all." How do you think a depressed and condemned soul would feel in that service? Does God love anyone less?

We might be tempted to think that the manifestations of God's power, grace and mercy in our lives shows we're in a "special" relationship with God that differentiates us from others who are not experiencing same whereas it is not true. That's just an act of God's mercy and grace.

There's something about the sovereignty of God we can't explain no matter how hard we try however, we should not think we're God's favourites above others when things work in our favour. Let's stop making men doubt the love of God in their lives because of "happenings" in our lives. That's why we must believe what the word says about God's love for us regardless of "happenings" or feelings.

That a man is experiencing the hand of God more than the other person doesn't mean such a person is God's favourite. That a man is in the wilderness phase of life doesn't mean he is loved less by God. Until we strike a balance in matters like this, some believers won't stop having a distorted view about God.

God has no favourite because the bible said so. His love for us is equal and same regardless of our tribe, colour, race and tongue. Your past is not a determinant of God's love for your life neither is your background a factor in this matter. If it were, God wouldn't love any man from Africa.

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners ( Romans 5:8 NLT).

Apostle Peter said, "... In EVERY NATION, He accepts those who fear him and do what is right". His love is without ethnic or racial bias. We have one duty as believers, that is to fear Him. The fear of God simply mean to walk in reverential fear. That's what we owe God.

God's love for us has been shown to all through the death of Christ on the cross and through the grace that Christ brought to us. Nothing can be greater than God's love through Christ, His sacrifice and what He wrought for us. Other benefits aside these are secondary and they don't mean we're loved specially from others whether we experience them or not.

CONFESSIONS: Father, thank you because you love me. I know I'm loved because Christ died for me. I'm grateful for your love, grace and mercy over my life in Jesus name.
