The spirit of Balaam should be checked when testing prophecies. The spirit of Balaam is a mercantile spirit that prophesy for money or use gimmicks to swindle people.
One common attribute of fake prophets almost everywhere is their greed and love for money. They're inseparable. They often use fear factor to make their victims feel they won't get result If they don't give.
I read about a prophet who showed the congregation cubes of sugar and he placed monetary value of N1,000 on it for anyone that wanted his life to be sweet like sugar.
The most painful aspect of it is that people always fall for such gimmicks. What about those that charge for prayers? Haven't you heard about prayer contractors that fix charges to pray and fast for people?
So many horrible things are happening today that most believers have failed to test. People now prefer extra biblical practices like using Menorah lamp stand, prayer shawl, prayer mat, ark of covenant rather than what is written in the word.
I have read my bible from cover to cover severally and I didn't see where a genuine prophet or Jesus charged to prophesy, heal and deliver.
A prophet like Elisha even rejected gifts let alone demanded for it. The error of prophet Balaam was that he was greedy for gain. Beware of those who use 'thus saith the Lord' to withdraw money from your pocket and demand a mandatory seed from you to be given to them so that prophesy or pray for you.
We now live in the end of end time. We must be circumspect and watchful of little things or practices that can make us stray from the faith that was once delivered unto the saints.
