PRAYER AND KNOWLEDGE OF SCRIPTURES
I love a praying church. I doubt if I can ever be part of a church that doesn't like to pray. I thank God for churches that are praying. Here in Africa especially Nigeria, certain churches are known for prayers and this is wonderful. There are prayer mountains where people go to pray and miracles are happening. Personally, I love to spend sometime with God on the mountain. I love where people are praying because it stirs me to pray. I can boldly say that Nigeria is a country where prayer is on for 24 hours a day, 7 days in a week. God has raised prayer giants in the history of Nigerian church and their exploits remain a reference point till date.
However, there's a need to strike the balance in this matter. Prayer is good but it must be balanced with knowledge of scriptures. Some of those churches known for prayers seems not to place premium on sound teaching of scriptures while those that we know to be sound in scriptures do not place premium on prayer. The two must go together. One of the reasons why there has been so much unscriptural prayers is because of lack of scriptural knowledge. I believe that a believer will pray amiss when prayer is not balanced with scriptures. There are unscriptural prayer points and prophetic actions today. I saw a church prayer session where they were wielding cutlasses while some go to prayer meetings with padlocks. .
I know a woman who told me that the only time she study her bible is when she goes to the mountain to pray. That's not good enough. Place premium on getting the knowledge of God's word. In your daily quiet time, pray and spend time studying God's word. Read good Christian books that can deepen your knowledge about scriptures. When prayer is not balanced with scriptures, you may end up saying incantations. Go for scriptural knowledge.
