Romsns8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
One of my mentors in ministry told us a story about how God led him to buy a car for the Pastor that joined him in marriage. He honoured a preaching invitation, after his ministration, he was given N200, 000 as honorarium. The host called him that God instructed him to increase to N1, 000,000. Immediately they gave him the cheque, he began to ask God why He instructed his host to increase his honorarium by N800, 000. He didn't touch the money for two weeks because he wanted the Spirit of God to lead him on how the money should be spent. The Spirit of God reminded him that he had always desired to buy a vehicle for the Pastor that joined him in marriage. He was instructed to use the money to purchase the vehicle for him. He simply obeyed.
That's what I call Spirit-controled giving or spending. As believers, God is interested in leading us in every area of our lives including our finances. Those that understand God deeply know that money in their hands is a servant not a master. True believers esteem money lightly that's why they give it as led by the Spirit of God. In 1Cor3:4, Paul referred to us as stewards. A steward is a man that is entrusted with things. He is not the owner just a care-taker. The owner can call him to accountability when he deem fit. Stewards don't struggle with the owner of what they've been entrusted with. That's who we are as believers.
When money comes into your hands, one of the things expected of you is to open your heart to the leading of the Spirit on what to do with it. In times of breakthroughs, so many believers have acquired properties and things of this world instead of asking the Lord if they should buy those things. A Pastor told us that he bought a car against God's wish and the car gave him serious problems. God want us to live well but He want to determine what we should do with what comes into our hands. I saw the income of John Wesley and expenditure for about 4 years. As his income increased, his standard of giving increased not his standard of living. All that some of us desire is improvement in standard of living though good but our first priority should be improvement in standard of giving. After increment in salary/income, why should you give the same amount as offering? Open your heart to the Holy Spirit on how to spend, He is a good financial advisor.
father, I receive the grace to be led by the Spirit in every area of my life including finances In Jesus name.
