Genesis 13:15 I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. ESV
SEEING BEYOND THE ORDINARY
When I was an undergraduate, 100 level to be precise, I stood in front of my class to give a short exhortation. The message I preached that day was on the topic titled: Vision. Standing in front of my peers to teach on that subject was divinely inspired because what would define the lives of my classmates was not the degree earned nor grades but their vision for life. That was a timely message they needed to hear at that very hour. Literally, vision refers to what can be seen with the eyes. When someone have a good eyesight, they would say the fellow has a 20-20 vision. Here, we are not talking about seeing with the ordinary eyes because many have eyes but cannot see.
In this context, vision is the sum total of God's plan and purpose for a man's life that is revealed. It is not just something you imagine or cook up. It is a divine revelation of God's assignment for your life. It is a divine idea birthed in your heart and a clear mental picture of the future. God given vision is a compelling force that points your attention to a task that should be done and a burden to carry. Lack of vision leads to confusion. Ordinary men are driven by ambition but kingdom people are defined by their vision. Those that lack a vision in life would be used as a tool to fulfil the vision of others.
In life, you cannot go far beyond what you see. Helen Keller said: 'The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision'. I was in the vehicle with one of our board members sometimes ago on our way to the mission field. He was surprised at how far we have traveled and the rough terrain where we found ourself. Out of surprise, he asked to know what drove me to the point of reaching out to people in the interior. It is simply vision. Your vision is the compass that would guide you in the journey of life, it is that thing that would drive and propel you. Until you discover your vision like has no meaning.
God is the giver of vision. God-given vision is revelatory in nature. Stay with God to know His mind on this matter.
