Matthew28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
SOUL-WINNING AND DISCIPLESHIP
It is wonderful to evangelize and win souls. The emphasis on soul-winning is good because the church of today need to be aggressive about bringing the lost into the fold. We were told by mission researchers that over 70,000 people die daily without hearing the gospel and that there are billions that are yet to hear the gospel especially in 10/40 window nations. That should lay upon you a burden to reach out with the gospel.
However, soul winning without adequate discipleship can make all evangelistic effort to be in vain. I gave my life to Christ in JSS 2 and I burned for the Lord for a while. When I got into SSS1, I backslid. Why? I was not properly discipled. No one taught me the 'ABC' of the faith. I thank God that he found me later and restored me but what about those who went back to the world and didn't return because of lack of discipleship? There's a need to strike a balance between soul-winning and discipleship.
As a field minister, I don't go to places where there's no pastor to carry on the work of discipleship. Evangelistic crusades and programs will bring people to Christ but discipleship is what will grow them into maturity in Christ. As you win souls to the Lord, do your best to nurture them with God's word often and if you don't have the grace to do it, hand them over to someone or a Pastor that would carry on.
Father, i receive the grace to strike a balance between soul-winning and discipleship In Jesus name.
