STRIKE A BALANCE Pt. 1

John 5:14 , KJV: "Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee."

HEALING AND HOLINESS

I have heard some folks say you don't need to balance anything in the scripture. That's true because the word of the Lord is settled in heaven, Psalm119:89. However, a preacher's approach to preaching and teaching of the word may be imbalanced. There is a tendency to emphasize one aspect of the Bible and neglect the other. This is a common problem in preaching and teaching from ages. Sometimes, the excuse given is that: "God gave me a single message to preach for a life time, that's my area of speciality". That maybe true but God wouldn't also be happy that you should neglect other important themes in the scripture.

In Matthew23:23, that was what Jesus was telling the Pharisees. They neglected the weightier matters of the law: Justice, Mercy and Faithfulness but they were giving tithes and probably encouraging others to do same. Jesus told them that they shouldn't have neglected those crucial matters at the expense of the other ones. The believer must be fed with a balanced diet of the word of God. No child grows by eating only one class of food. Balanced diet is required and necessary for all-round growth. After Jesus healed the invalid man at the pool of Bethesda, he told him to sin no more because the worse might happen to him If he sins. What Jesus did there was that He struck a balance between healing and holiness. He didn't just preach healing or minister healing to the man only, in addition, he emphasized on the importance of living a holy life.

Of what use is healing when the healed is a chronic sinner on his way to hell? Jesus is teaching us something there. Because of emphasis on healing and miracles without a corresponding emphasis on holy living, we have many miracle seekers than God seekers. If we call for healing service, the number of attendees is likely to be more than those that would attend a seminar on purity. It is good to be healed but it is better to live holy because without it no man shall see the Lord, Hebrew12:14. Live a balanced Christian life.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to adhere to this in Jesus name.
