2 Pet1:5-7 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. NLT
ADD THESE SUPPLEMENTS TO YOUR FAITH
A supplement is a substance you add to something. Sometimes, dieticians recommend food supplements so that deficient nutrients can be adequately supplied to our bodies. In 2 Pet1:5-7, apostle Peter enjoined that we add certain supplements to our faith in Christ. In preceding verses(3&4), he spoke about the divine nature and precious promises we have as believers. All that sounds good. It is sweet to hear about our imputed righteousness and all the benefits that accrue to the new creation.
However, Peter said we still have a role to play in keeping that precious salvation: "So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. DO THESE THINGS, and you will never fall away" 2 Pet1:10 NLT. What are the things he said we should do? You'll find the list in the opening text. In verse 10, he made it clear that if we add those Christian virtues to our lives, we won't fall away. From what? From God's eternal kingdom: "Do these things, and you will never fall away...Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ", 2 Peter 1:10-11 NLT.
Hey! From the scripture above, it shows there's a possibility for someone who has enjoyed God's free gift of righteousness and benefited from grace to be denied entry into God's eternal kingdom if he doesn't do the things listed in vs 5-7. Dearest, you have a role to play. Don't hide behind God's grace and gift of righteousness to live a life that gratify fleshly desires. Grace is not a licence to sin but an empowerment to produce the fruits of righteousness: "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world"; Titus 2:11,12 KJV
Father, I receive the grace to produce the fruit of righteousness in Jesus name.
