Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. NIV

PORTRAIT OF FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

A portrait is a painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, especially one depicting only the face or head and shoulders. In essence, a portrait depicts something. To understand the fruit of righteousness the believer is expected to produce, you need to examine what Paul called the fruit of the Spirit. They're one and thesame. The fruit of the Spirit depict christian conduct and character that is expected of believers. Any believer whose life manifest the fruit of the Spirit is pleasing to the Lord and is living like Christ. The totality of Christ likeness is depicted by the fruit of the Spirit.

As new testament believers, our lives should not be patterned after Mosaic laws. We're meant to live Spirit led lives: "But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses", Gal 5:18 NLT. When you live a life that is led by the Spirit then you'll be walking in true righteousness and holiness that is expected of you. Some are still obsessed with the ceremonies and rituals of the law. Truly, they desire to please God but their reference(Mosaic codes) is wrong. They think they can succeed where the Jews failed. In the long run, they end up fulfilling the laws that are convenient for them and they leave out others. Paul said such persons are under a curse: "But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law”, Gal 3:10 NLT.

Why put yourself under a curse? Our concern should be how to produce the fruit that is expected of us as believers. The only way to produce the fruit is to abide in Christ: "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing", John 15:4-5 KJV. As you stay in Christ and remain in the place of fellowship with him, your life will bear fruit.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to abide in you so that my life can produce the fruit of the Spirit in Jesus name.
