Prov18:2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.
I was in a relationship with a sister while in the university. That relationship lasted for only four months before we parted ways. Why did I enter into that relationship in the first place? I assumed I was spiritual enough to handle a relationship. I saw others who were in a relationship and I felt I could handle one. One of my trusted friends and my room mates contributed to my hasty decision because they had eaten "cooler ministration" from the sister and they felt she was an opportunity I shouldn't miss.
One of my friends, a spiritually sensitive sister warned me not to enter into that relationship. I dismissed her counsel because I felt she was jealous being single and unengaged. Lo! I missed it. For the short period spent in that relationship, I felt dry, empty and lonely even amongst a crowd of people. I was tormented within. That doesn't mean something is wrong with the sister but she wasn't meant for me. When someone isn't meant for you, you may find yourself struggling to keep up with the person in that relationship. That doesn't mean the person is bad. It'll look like trying to fix a square peg in a round hole. I learnt several lessons from that experience. You don't enter into a relationship with the opposite sex on assumption. Assumption leads to hasty decisions and hasty decisions are bad decisions.
I assumed I was ripe enough to enter into a relationship since others were in one. When it comes to marriage focused relationship, it is not what you enter because you think time is not on your side or because others are into one. Culture or tradition shouldn't determine that for you. Do you know it wasn't Adam that demanded for a wife? Genesis 2:18 "Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him”. The timing for Adam's marriage was God's idea not his. If he had assumed that time was not on his side and rushed into marriage, he may have married one of the animals but he was busy with the assignment God gave to him. Find God's purpose for your life as a single. Meet heaven's requirements in your single phase of life before proceeding to the next phase.
Father, I receive the grace to wait on you for direction in Jesus name.
