DON'T MISS THE SUPERNATURAL BY SEEKING THE SPECTACULAR

2 Kings 5:10 "I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper." Naaman had ranted.

From the wall of one of my lecturers, I read the story of a woman who traveled for seven hours to see a powerful man of God she had heard so much about to find solution to her problem. This minister agreed to see the woman even though there was no prior appointment. There was no mobile network those days, and land phones were not that reliable. After telling her problems to this man of God, he simply held her hands and prayed with her for a few minutes and said to her, " madam it is settled." "Is that all?" She exclaimed. The flustered woman couldn't imagine she came on a seven-hour journey, just for a simple prayer. Not after all she had been told about this man of God. She had expected something more spectacular. It is God's prerogative to move the way he wants not our own way.

God does not operate in the realm of the spectacular. He operates in the realm of faith. Naaman expected prophet Elisha to do special 'prophetic work' on him. He was disappointed and furious, when Elisha, the man of God, sent a messenger to tell him to go and bathe in River Jordan to be cleansed of his leprosy. Most times, we are like Naaman. The moment you don't believe in simple prayers prayed in Jesus name, you may not receive answers. The reason some are jumping from mountains to prayer houses till they get into the wrongs hands is because they sought for the spectacular. Who said you must fall under anointing before you can be healed/ receive your miracles? After praying for some persons, they'll ask, "Did you see anything"? Must something be seen? A very young secondary school girl told me she left her dad's church for an occultic because they see visions in the later. The expectation of the spectacular has made some ministers to become stage performers for their members. They come up with theatrics, yell and do stuffs that'll make people say, "I feel God here." Dear, you can't feel God because he is Spirit, you can only sense him in your spirit even if there's nothing physical about it. Sensationalism is not the way of the Spirit. We don't feel our way into spiritual things. Feelings are fickle.

The spectacular is not a precursor to the supernatural, faith is. God want us to put our faith in him even if he chooses to move in a simple way with no airs of the spectacular. If a preacher is always seeking the spectacular before believing God moved in his ministrations, he may end up becoming a performer or demons will perform for him. Not all those people falling down or screaming are doing so by the Spirit. I've walked with God for a while to know that. Demons can distract a preacher with what seems like "manifestation" so that he'll leave preaching/ teaching of the word to give them attention. There is a longing in our hearts for the supernatural, even some unbelievers want to experience it. However, God has chosen to manifest himself in the realm of simple faith not in 'powerful prayers'. What some call 'powerful prayers' is just prayers with raised voice and theatrics. If someone prays for them with a low tone, they'll conclude the prayer is not powerful. You don't need a 'powerful prayer'. What you need is to offer your prayers( in faith) to a powerful God. That's how to get result.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to believe you and express simple faith in your word for a flow of the supernatural in Jesus name. Amen
