The mind of every human on earth has gates. These gates are the access points into the mind. Nothing enters the mind except through these gates and it is important we learn about these gates and how to guard them against pollutants. Our minds have two gates:
(a) Eye gate
(b) Ear gate
The bible says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it"( Pro 4:23 NIV).
The scripture above uses a strong word "guard". You don't guard something that is not prone to theft or illegal access. Everyone guards their treasures. In safe guarding our houses, we put gates and doors in strategic places.
Eye gate: The first gate that leads into the mind are the eyes. The mind cannot imagine sexual immorality If the eyes have not seen anything that looks like it or can provoke sexual thoughts. The eyes feed the mind with images that fuels immoral thoughts.
For instance, most people who masturbate do so having paid attention to images that are sexually provoking. Their eyes are filled with immoral images that corrupts their minds. The bible aptly describes this.
2 Pet 2:14 says, "WITH EYES FULL OF ADULTERY, they never stop sinning;..."
If the eyes of some can be full of adultery, It can be full of fornication and all manners of immorality. The eyes are powerful. If you feed your eyes with all the immoral contents on social media and Internet, your eyes will be full of adultery and fornication.
Sometime ago, I blocked my facebook account from watching a popular skitmaker whose repeated pattern of skitmaking is to make ladies a sexual object. The focus is always on the sensitive parts of their bodies and he gives attention to those body parts. When I saw that my soul was being corrupted, I blocked him. Though he has a good socio political message but the manner of presentation can corrupt the soul.
Close the gates of your eyes from seeing things that are not edifying. Immoral thoughts often begins with what the eyes sees. Your mind will not be sanitized until you guard the gates of your eyes and focus only on things that edify, the chiefest of which is the word of God.
There are people fasting and praying against immorality yet they are feeding their minds with sexually provoking images. It doesn't work that way. You cannot be praying and still be feeding your mind with unholy things. The two don't mix. You must take responsibility. Prayer works when we take proper actions in certain areas.
You cannot pray away what you behaved yourself into. Change that behaviour and you'll see a change in outcome.
