*PAUL'S COUNSEL TO THE RICH* Pt.3

1 Timothy 6:17 *Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment*

TRUST IN GOD

One battle the rich will always fight is the battle of trusting in the Lord not because they do not believe in his existence but because they have confidence in money. There is a false confidence that comes with having plenty money which can make a man's heart to drift from trusting God.

That is not to say poverty makes people spiritual, far from it. Poverty is also a demonic tool that distracts from serving God faithfully. So, understand that I am not in any way glorifying poverty. I am only sticking to the Pauline counsel to the rich people. He instructed that they should trust God.

If trusting God wasn't a problem to the rich in his day, he wouldn't have made that statement. He stated clearly why he admonished the rich to trust in God: "...THEIR TRUST SHOULD BE IN GOD, WHO RICHLY GIVES US ALL WE NEED FOR OUR ENJOYMENT"( 1 Tim6:17)

The rich man must acknowledge God as the giver of all that he has provided he got it the right way. The rich might be prone to thinking that he got all he has with his wisdom and strength. Paul is pointing them back to God, who is the giver.

One of the ideologies I once believed is that we( believers)  don't need God to be wealthy. I thought the game of wealth creation was the same between believers and unbelievers only for me to realize that it is not totally true because there are spirits that controls everything we see. The Holy Spirit makes things work out for believers, not only "spiritual" things we think. While Satan makes things work for his own. No one stands in the middle.

While I understand that there are universal principles for wealth creation, for a child of God, the power and the mercy of God is what makes the application of those principles to produce result. So many are big on applying the universal principles of wealth creation but they are still languishing in poverty. That is why a believer must acknowledge God always as his provider.

God wants the rich to understand that he made their wealth possible because "... A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven"( Jn 3:27). The believer who is rich must understand this and alway acknowledge God as the giver of his wealth. The rich believer must see his wealth as something that came from heaven not from his wisdom.

Action Point:

Trusting in God is what keeps the flow of wealth continous for a believer. That is why his trust must be in God not in his wisdom.
