Any time I see what Bill&Melinda Gate foundation is doing all over the world, something tells me that is what riches should be used for though it is not the ticket to eternal salvation. Also, that is what wealthy believers should be doing. It has both evangelistic and eternal value.
It is surprising that some rich unbelievers do what scripture commands as regards generosity and Satan has used the occasion of their generosity to evangelize the people to their religion.
As a missionary, during my visits to some countries in Africa, I saw legacy community projects donated by organizations and wealthy individuals to poor African communities. However, I also saw that those projects were for religious purposes or had religious intent. They were mission strategies by people of other faith to capture the people.
I thought to myself that wealthy believers and churches can do much more than what those people have done. The problem is that most believers do not understand the stewardship of money. Often, it is about us not his kingdom.
Why should a Christian be consumed with mundane things always wanting to be trendy and ostentatious?
May be I am talking like this because of my exposure to missions and the realities on ground especially in Africa. Good works shown to people is not the gospel in itself but it prepares their hearts to receive the gospel.
People can reject a message but they hardly reject love when shown to them through good works. Both must go hand-in-hand.
