1Cor 11:1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
ABSENCE OF GODLY MODEL
In Egypt, there were no godly models that children could pattern their life after. Even if there were, probably Moses and Aaron. However, these men were on a mission to liberate the Israelites from the yoke of slavery so they were occupied with that assignment. God knew it was impossible for Moses to model godly character to them that was why he wanted them separated from the Egyptians so that their focus can be single. Pharoah knew that if the children and women were allowed to go, they would see godly models to pattern their lives after. The models in Egypt were the magicians, sorcerers, witches, prostitutes and wicked Pharoah himself.
Egypt is symbolic of the world system. Today, the models this perverse system is projecting to our children are perverse hip-hop artists whose lyrics are vulgar, those that promote gangsterism, internet fraud, sexual immorality and all sort of vices. These things are no longer hidden unlike before where these things were covert. The corruption of this world is being advertised on the internet, television and on all social media platforms. It takes grace to raise children that are saved and sanctified in this generation. Why? They are surrounded by wrong models. No thanks to the media. Now we see programmes that promote nudity and immorality and they get paid heavily for these yet intelligence and creativity is not rewarded. All of these are the tactics of Pharoah for the next generation.
However, there is hope. Where sin increased, grace abounded the more (Romans5:20). In the absence of godly models, Parents should be the first and major model of godliness to their children. If there's any major challenge I see here, I think it is the failure of parents who have never been discipled and parents who grew up in an environment or home where godliness was not modeled. Those kinds of parents may find it hard modeling righteousness to their children. I often tell people that children rarely do what we say sometimes but they do what they see us doing. If your home is hot and smoky, when your children grow up, they may pattern their homes after yours. Everyone of us is a product of influence from our childhood. It is believed that children from broken homes are likely to experience same because that is what was modeled to them. As a parent, you're the only hope of godly modeling to your children. You can't afford to leave that to the media or people around. At least, for the sake of the next generation, start living a godly life and don't be pretentious about it. If you make godliness a lifestyle, it would influence your children because they learn mostly by imitation.
Father, I receive the grace to be a godly model to my children in Jesus name.
