A GODLY MODEL
I noticed that my sons especially our first son is very good at observing whatever we are doing or saying. He's so smart. At a time whenever my wife and I want to discuss crucial issues, we would switch from English language to Yoruba. Unknown to us, the young guy was taking Yoruba classes from us. Today, there's hardly anything you say in Yoruba language he doesn't understand. That's not the crux of my discussion today. He studied me closely especially how I pray including my prayer language. Whenever he's praying, he'll start speaking in tongues and he prays the way I pray. He lay hands on his brother and mom because that's my pattern of praying for them.
One day, I told him his tongues are fake because he is not yet baptized in the Holy Ghost but he doesn't understand that yet. His concern for now is to pray like his daddy. Children learn from what we do more than anything else. They are good observers. They are new in the world and they are trying to form their own philosophy and idiosyncrasies. The very first place where they pick life lessons from is the home. Research has shown that people tend to pattern their marriage like their parent marriage. When fathers aren't godly models, they may likely raise ungodly children.
A daddy that beats mummy has a high tendency of raising sons that would beat their wives. Prayerless daddies may raise prayerless children. I help my wife do the dishes sometimes and I tell my sons to also help their future wives. Now, they ask me to help their mum whenever they feel she's tired. Become for yourself what you want your children to become and let them have access to your private life provided you have nothing to hide. Sometimes, let them see you praying, fasting and studying the word. Don't watch t. v. programs you wouldn't want them to watch in your absence. Model to them what you want them to do.
