Genesis 22:1-2 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” ESV
I learnt something profound from the story of father Abraham when God told him to sacrifice Isaac. He heard God clearly and he recognized that it was God that spoke to him not the devil. Knowing the personality of the person who spoke made him to obey. However, when he got to Mount Moriah, as he was about to cut Isaac through, thesame God that instructed him to sacrifice Isaac told him to stop. What do you think would have happened if Abraham didn't hear God the second time? Isaac would have been butchered.
Abraham was sensitive to the leading of the Spirit every step of the way. He may have sacrificed Isaac claiming it was God that spoke whereas, when he got to Mount Moriah, God changed his programme for that hour and hence there was a change of instruction. God was simply testing his level of obedience. God can give an instruction today or yesterday but tomorrow He may halt the progress you have made along that line and lead you on to something else. The little I know about God is that He has programmes for each season. Once that season is over, he would change his programme and give fresh instructions on what it is next. It takes being current with God to know what He has in mind per season. The sons of Issachar were men who were current with God because they understood the times. For that reason, their brothers were at their command. (1Chron12:32).
God may tell you to move yesterday but today's instruction may be 'stop'. Don't walk with God on old or stale instructions. Always find out from God if you're still in His programme for the hour. Be current with God. I love listening to Bishop Oyedepo's testimony on how he moved the church headquarters from Kaduna to Lagos and to Ota in Ogun state. He was instructed by God to move the international headquarters of his ministry to each of those places mentioned. If he had stayed in Kaduna all through his ministry claiming it was God that sent him there without being current with God on the phases of his ministry and location, he may have remained on a spot. That's what it means to be current with God. I thank God you know what God told you yesterday but what is God saying today?
Father, I want to know your mind(...mention the areas in need of clarity) this very hour in Jesus name. Amen
