ASSOCIATION
Jane was a peace loving lady but she has her imperfections just like every other person. She got married to John, a wonderful guy but his company of friends weren't good enough for his calibre of person and his faith. Anytime he has misunderstanding with Jane, his friends advised him wrongly and that led to serious crisis in their marriage. For those that have counseled couples in crisis or those that have seen couples having issues , you may have come across scenarios like this. Sometimes, bad association can influence a marriage wrongly. The bad advice of some friends have ruined homes. Painfully, some give wrong advice yet their homes are intact. They'll tell another man or woman to do what they're not doing to their spouse.
The story of Amnon, Tamar and Jonadab is a great lesson for us(2Sam13). Jonadab advised Amnon wrongly. He raped Tamar, his half-sister. When Amnon's destruction came, Jonadab was spared. One of the things you must diagnose in a relationship is friendship and association. Everyone of us is a product of influence. Some have boastfully said they can't be influenced but I dare to say that all human actions and behaviour is a product of influence whether good or bad, consciously or unconsciously. That's the reason why the scriptures enjoined that we should walk with the right set of people.
You can tell who a person is by looking at his association. Show me your friend, I will tell who you are. That old adage is still relevant. The scriptures is perfect and relevant at all times. He that walk with the wise shall be wise but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. You need to diagnose association to be sure of where you stand. If her friends are not different from harlots, they may seduce you some day or even drag her into their business. If his friends drink, go clubbing and womanise, he is a suspect. You can't be too careful in relationship matters.
