WHY I BELIEVE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.NLT
There's also a need to establish the deity of the Holy Spirit and this can only be done by studying the bible systematically. The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead and He is fully God along with God the father and God the Son( Jesus Christ). He is not an impersonal force neither is he a source of power controlled by God. Some even think the Holy Spirit is another name for Jesus in spirit form, apart from His body. None of these ideas aligns with scriptures. The bible describes the Holy Spirit as a divine person who has been present with the Father and the Son since before time began: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters"( Genesis 1:1-2 NLT). The revelation of His personality reverberates throughout the bible. He can speak( Acts 13:1-2), He has a will(1 Cor.12:4-7), He can be grieved( Eph4:30). All these scriptural evidences shows that He's not a mere force but a divine personality.
Aside being a person, He is also God as revealed to us in scriptures: "Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself"(Acts of the Apostles 5:3 NLT). Peter said clearly that Ananias lied to the Holy Spirit. In the verse after the one cited above, Peter said Ananias lied to God, referring to the Holy Spirit: "The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”( Acts of the Apostles 5:4 NLT). Reading contextually, Peter couldn't have made the mistake of referring to two different persons. The Holy Spirit in verse 3 is the same person referred to as God in verse 4. Hallelujah!!! The Holy Spirit is God. Peter made no mistake about it.
This is a mystery revealed only to sons. In the trinitarian order, He is the third person in the Godhead. The subordination of Christ to God the father and the Spirit to both of them doesn't imply inferiority but orderliness and submission. They're co equal, coeternal. If the Holy Spirit is not God, His divinity would have been questionable. Only God can speak, lead, heal and revive men. All the great works we see in the body of Christ today are the works of the Holy Spirit. The bible that you read is called the word of God because the Holy Spirit inspired the prophets and the apostles to write or speak what is there: "Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God"(2 Peter 1:20-21 NLT).
Holy Spirit, reveal yourself to me from scriptures. Help me to love and fellowship with you better in Jesus name.
