WHY I BELIEVE JESUS IS GOD Pt.1

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.NLT

I was teaching this subject recently, a man whom I know has been in the faith for decades openly declared that he doesn't believe Jesus is God. I have seen or read alot of opposing views about the deity of Jesus. If there's one issue that some bible scholars have argued for or against, it is the issue of Jesus' deity. I'm not writing this to argue. I simply want to state truths found in scriptures. Till date, Islam will never accept the deity of Jesus. They call it a 'Shiek', it is quite understandable if they do not accept this fundamental truth because they do not believe in the inspiration of scriptures. That's why I'm not so concerned about what they believe on this matter. For them to accept the deity of Jesus, they have to accept the bible as the authentic word of God. However, I'm more concerned about bible carriers who still argue with a truth plainly revealed in scriptures. If Jesus is not God, do you think His blood could wash sins away? It takes the blood of deity to wash away the sins of humanity. Hallelujah!!! I'm glad I'm blood washed, sanctified and saved eternally.

Let me give you the first scriptural evidence about the deity of Jesus from his very mouth. Unfortunately, some think Paul was the one who claimed deity for Jesus whereas, Jesus did by himself. Let's consider what He said in John 10:30(NLT), "The Father and I are one.” Now this looks like a casual statement but the implication is deeper than you think. When Jesus made that statement about His oneness with the father, the Jews who listened to Him picked stones and wanted to stone Him. Why did they react negatively to that statement? Let's consider verse 33 of the same chapter: "They replied, “We’re stoning you not for any good work, but for blasphemy! YOU, A MERE MAN, CLAIM TO BE GOD*.” Now you can see that the Jews understood what Jesus meant when He claimed to be one with the father. They knew that He was claiming to be God. To them, He was a mere man claiming to be God but Jesus isn't a mere man neither is he another prophet, He is God. He claimed to be God and scriptures say so. Hallelujah!!! Jesus is God.

From the old testament, the deity of Jesus has been revealed. Prophet Isaiah revealed this truth but often we overlook it. Let's read Isaiah 9:6, a prophecy about the birth of Jesus, "For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Prophet Isaiah, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit called Jesus "Mighty God". If He isn't mighty God, Isaiah wouldn't have called him so. Jesus is a mighty God. We sing it in our songs. It is sacrilegious to think Jesus to be a mere man. He is God who took the form of man to save man. He is called "Emmanuel" meaning "God with us". He is God that is with us. Hallelujah!!! I have Jesus living in me and abiding with me. God is with me, I'm conscious of His ever abiding presence.

Action point

Father, I thank you for revealing Jesus to me, help me to work in the consciousness of this scriptural reality in Jesus name.
