Col 3:1-2 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
In Jewish liturgy, their prayer is incomplete until they pray about the kingdom of God. Why? Their heart is fixed and focused on the promised kingdom. To them, that was the most important thing. When Jesus taught his disciples to pray, you'll notice that there was a bold prayer about the kingdom: "thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth even as it in heaven", Matthew 6:10. Other content of the prayer are kingdom focused in a way.
It was only in one line he asked for bread ( provision).
What do we have today? We have turned our prayers upside down. We ask for daily bread more than we pray kingdom focused prayers. We are full of 'give me give me bless me bless me' prayers but hardly will you find a prayer meeting dedicated to praying about the things that matters to God and his kingdom. If we call for a prayer meeting and give it a very sensational theme like: "Pray yourself into victory over witches" or "Prayer to conquer household Enemies", I'm sure the attendance will double that of a prayer meeting with a theme that is kingdom focused. A generation prayed to see God's glory, and they saw it through awekenings and revivals. Another generation is praying that men may see their own glory and they lost the fire of revival.
I want you to have a biblical focus about your life on earth. I have not in any way said it is wrong to ask God for provisions and others things. However, your prayer should centre around the things that matters to God. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need". Pray about your walk with God and always ask him to overhaul your life so that you can be presented blameless before God(Col1:10). Ask the Lord for harvest of souls around the world and to open door of ministry unto the saints(Psalm2:8, Matthew9:36-38). Pray for revival like men of yore did. These and many more are very important to God.
Father, I receive grace to pray meaningful prayers henceforth in Jesus name.
