SHE'S BETTER THAN A MAD PERSON

Prov12:15 Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.NLT

A learned man was driving his car on third mainland bridge in Lagos-Nigeria on a fateful day. One of his tyres deflated and he parked his vehicle to change it. Due to his carelessness while trying to fix the tyre, all the four bolts entered into the lagoon through the expansion joint. He didn't know what to do because leaving the vehicle on the bridge could spell danger because the place was robbery prone. He waited several hours trying to figure out what he should do. No one offered to help him because doing such was risky on that high way.

When it was almost evening time, a mad man walked up to him. This raving mad man made a mockery of him knowing that the simple challenge he had was with getting bolts to replace the missing ones. The mad man told him there was a way out. He counseled him to remove one bolt from each of the three tyres to fix the extra. That counsel from a mad man saved him hours of fruitless waiting. Though he was an educated man, it was the counsel of a mad man that saved his day. Any lesson learnt? So much to learn from that story but I'll tailor my counsel towards marriage.

Husband, listen to your wife's counsel. She's better than a mad man. There are men who have a bias against the counsel of their wives. They hold a belief that women can't offer wise counsel and that the best of their counsel is to suit their selfish purposes but that's not always true. They forgot that wisdom is not gender specific. Success and progress has eluded some men because they prefer the counsel of their beer guzzling friends whilst neglecting the wise counsel from the wife of their youth. When Abraham's family was distressed, in Gen 21:12, God said: "...Do not be upset over the boy and your servant. Do whatever Sarah tells you, for Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted". If the wise counsel of a mad man saved the day for a learned man, the wise counsel of your wife will save you years of wastage and backwardness. She's better than a mad person, listen to her.

Action point

Father, I thank you for the wife you've given to me. I receive grace to break free from the evil cultural mould that makes men shun wise counsel from their wives in Jesus name.
