STOP LIVING ON EXPIRED INSTRUCTIONS

February 16, 2021 · Lanre Oyeleke · 3 views

Genesis22:1 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. 2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

There is something for us all to learn in the story of Abraham and his attempt to sacrifice Isaac. What we commonly accept as the major lesson is that God tested Abraham and he passed the test. Some have also taken that scenario to preach on sacrificial giving. All that said, there's another vital lesson we all must draw from that story.

It was God that told Abraham to take his son to mount Moriah for sacrifice. I'm sure Abraham heard God clearly on that because the bible said so. However, that instruction had a time lag. While he was about sacrificing his son, the instruction changed, God told him to stop. The old instruction to sacrifice his son expired the moment God gave a counter instruction even though the intention of the former instruction was to test his heart. If Abraham was insensitive to God, he would have killed his son citing the first instruction whereas God has moved on. Walking with God demands that we are current with him.

There are believers who live on stale or expired instruction. God has moved but they remained on the previous spot. The instruction to move from Egypt to wilderness was meant to be a temporary one, Canaan was the goal yet most of those who left Egypt couldn't make it to Canaan. You must be sensitive to differentiate between the journey and the destination. There are certain instructions that are but for a moment. If you build a monument around it, you'll be walking outside God's program for your life. If you're still running a conference or program that was meant for a season, you'll be feeding people with stale food. Some programs have outlived its usefulness. Take time to know God's mind for the now so that you won't sacrifice your Isaac out of insensitivity.
