Matthew 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Years back, I was in a group with some brethren. We prayed and fasted often. There was a brother among us who was fond of telling us to blow the devil when he led prayers. It was such a physical and body wearying type of prayer. We exerted ourselves. We all forgot what Paul said saying, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places",Eph 6:12. One of the reasons why the prayer of some believers remain unanswered is because they're praying outside the word.
Another place where some miss it in their prayers is on the issue of demons. Some have this believe that demons can die and hence they focus on "killing" them with prayers. That's very unscriptural. I understand and agree with the figurative expression of that prayer but when it is intended to mean what it is literally, it is anti scriptures. No where in scriptures did we see Jesus or the Apostles pray a demon to death. In fact, when demons saw Jesus, they were intelligent enough to remind him that their time of torment had not come as cited in our opening text. Jesus had to cast them out but he didn't command them to die.
What about casting devil into the abyss? The answer can be found in Rev20:1-2, "And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,". The time for the devil to be cast into the abyss( bottomless pit) will only be after the tribulation before the millennium. No matter how much you pray about that fervently now, as long as the great tribulation hasn't ended, devil won't be thrown into the abyss. Do you want answers to your prayers? I'm sure you do. Start praying the will of God as revealed in scriptures. Those that are lazy in studying God's word may end up praying the wrong prayers. Upgrade your prayer theolgy through the word especially the new testament and you'll get result.
Father help me. Henceforth, I receive the grace not to pray amiss in Jesus name.
