I MUST MARRY FROM MY TRIBE
A sister was ripe for marriage. She was successful in her business and she loved the Lord but she was conscious about her tribe. When she wanted to marry, she told a minister that her husband must come from her place. She was told to pray but she insisted. Eventually, she got what she wanted but she suffered physical and verbal abuse till she died.
In a multi ethnic country like Nigeria and some African countries, tribal factors are considered by many whenever they want to marry. No thanks to some parents who will insist that their children must marry from their tribe and never marry outside. Unfortunately, those with such stand exist in the church and even among the Pastors. They view people from earthly standpoint and associate certain characters with people from a particular tribe. "So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now!", 2Cor5:16.
Being good or bad has nothing to do with tribe. There are good and bad people in all tribes. You need to look beyond tribal affiliation when you're set to marry. People are who they are because of their decisions and who is leading them. If a man lives by the flesh, he will live according to the dictates of the flesh. This is something that can happen to anyone from any tribe. The fear of evil custom and tradition is another factor. My belief is that no true child of God will hold on to evil traditions. Don't box the Holy Spirit in the choice of whom to marry. He can lead you to any of God's children regardless of tribe. Open your heart to his leading.
Father, I refuse to become a tribal Christian in Jesus name.
