CONSUMED BY THE PRAISES OF MEN

February 10, 2021 · Lanre Oyeleke · 5 views

Acts 12:21-22 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

Every child of God need to learn from the story of Herod Agrippa 1. He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him through the support of his personal assistant, Blastus. They asked for peace, because they depended on his country for their food supply. On the appointed day, Herod Agrippa wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, ‘this is the voice of a god, not of a man.’

Instead of him to give God the glory, he allowed the praises of men to get into his head. The bible said, "And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost",Acts 12:23. As God's children, we need to be careful about the praises of men. One of the ways the devil present to us the opportunity to be proud is when we allow the praises of men get the best of us. They said Herod's speech was the voice of a god not a man. The moment we fail to realize that our exploits are products of God's grace and not ourselves, we set ourselves up for a life of shame.

It is dangerous to live for the praises of men. It is even more dangerous to do ministry for the praises of men. Are those facebook and social media praise comments the motivation behind your constant posts? When you sang the last time, what were you expecting the people to say after your ministration? Are you beginning to preach/ teach to impress? The praises of men consumes, learn from Herod. God can share his power but not his glory. Please, don't touch the glory that belongs to him even when praise singers are pushing you to do so. Beware of praise singers.
