Sometimes ago, a woman came to me after ministering on a sunday. She brought to me the picture of a handsome man whom her daughter wanted to marry. She told me that her daughter was in a relationship with the man but the relationship hit the rocks. She wanted me to pray so that this man would marry her daughter. She further said that she has taken the picture round to several places where they confirmed to her that this man was her daughter's husband. When she said that, I was turned off. Quickly I discerned the whole situation by the Spirit and I knew that the Ahab syndrome was at work in her. She wanted her daughter to marry this guy for prestige reasons. That's all. God was not involved as she had been told by some prophets or Pastors but she wanted a validation from me. I told her that if God was involved,they would marry. After that encounter with her, her daughter had moved on to other relationship that didn't end in marriage.
Ahab was a king in Israel who didn't fear God. He wanted to go to war. His prophets told him to go to war because victory was sure. However, there was a genuine prophet of God( Micaiah son of Imlah) who was known for telling the truth. He was consulted because Jehoshaphat insisted. Ahab knew that he won't say what others were saying. Why do you think Ahab knew what he would say?Ahab was always looking for someone to validate his error either through "thus saith the Lord" or through counsel as it was in the case of Naboth's vineyard. The Spirit of Ahab is at work today. As a minister of the gospel, I have seen situations where people want the stamp of a preacher on their decisions so that they would say "Pastor so so even told me to go ahead with my plans or decision". Every minister of the gospel must be wise in this regard. Don't be quick to endorse people's decisions especially when God hasn't spoken to you clearly.
I have fallen victim of this evil before. I was in a relationship back in school and I knew my spirit was troubled about it. I pressed on. Everyone I told about my relationship quickly endorsed it. I hid it from men with the spirit of Micaiah except for one sister. She told me to be patient. I took offense at her counsel because I felt she was jealous of my new status. Time proved me wrong while that sister was right. In your decision making , you need to be sincere with yourself. Do not be like Ahab who surrounded himself with 'yes' men. The path of destruction is looking for men and women who will get a reference letter from someone that is perceived to be spiritual so that they can walk in it certified. We all need to pray against the spirit of Ahab in our lives. That spirit tend to make us pitch our tent with those that tell us what we want to hear instead of getting closer to those that will tell us the truth.
Father, I receive the grace to stay on the path of truth and I break ties with the spirit of Ahab in Jesus name.
