MUST I DREAM?
This is a question that is burning in the heart of many sincere people. There are preachers who teach that if you don't dream or see night visions, you're blind spiritually. Their belief is that every child of God must be a dreamer like Joseph. This kind of teaching or message has made so many people to be praying to hear God in their dreams. So many sleep with high expectations of seeing something in their dreams but when they wake up without dreaming, they ascribe such to a demonic manipulation. Well, I don't hold such views because it is not stated in my bible that it is compulsory for everyone to dream. Some dream from time to time because that is how God speak to them but it is not a general rule that everyone must dream.
What we know from scripture is that every believer can be led by God but we are not to determine how the leading should come. We know from scriptures that God's word and inner witness of the Spirit is always there as a safe guide, however God can choose to speak to us through other means but that is based on his own prerogative. The moment we begin to tell God how we want him to speak to us, we may open ourselves to demonic manipulation. Demons can show us dreams and appear as though it is God that is speaking. Our desire should be to hear from God in the way he has chosen to speak to us.
Do not let anyone make you feel your sleep is barren because you didn't dream. In my personal view, I believe God speak to us in the dream because of our insensitivity all day. Take for instance, if God need to communicate an avoidable pending danger to you at mid day, if all you rely on to hear from God is through dreams, you may become a casualty of that danger if you did not dream about it the previous night. The man whose spirit can catch divine signals at any given time is better than the man who has to sleep before hearing from God. Everyone of us can develop our spirit man to a point where we can sense what God is saying per time. We should aim at getting to that level in our walk with God. However, if dreaming is your forte, open yourself to God's leading through it but if not, God will lead you through other means.
CONFESSION: I am sensitive to the leading of the Spirit henceforth. I refuse to be blinded by sentiments, I refuse to be manipulated in the name of Jesus Christ.
