THANK YOU IS NOT ENOUGH: BE A BLESSING

Galatians 6:6 *Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them* (NLT).

Sometime ago, I began a search for one of my secondary school teachers who made a great impact in my life. I asked my colleagues to get me his contact. Why? I just want to be a blessing to him because he is part of my journey.

If I have the heart to do that for an ordinary teacher who taught me science, those who have taught me the word and preparing me for eternity  deserves much more. That is what the scripture commands, it is not a suggestion.

In addition to your duty to pray for us as your pastors and teachers, you owe us the duty of providing for us as the Lord blesses. Not out of coercion or compulsion but out of a sense of appreciation for what the Lord is doing through us for you.

Sometime ago, I was glad when a pastor from Kenya who has been reading our daily devotional sent me an offering. He testified about how my daily teachings has been a blessing to him. I was glad God is using me to bless lives in far and distant lands yet some that are close read me daily for years but have never obeyed Galatians 6:6.

If you read my teachings daily and you get blessed&edified from what I share, it is not too much to bless me with your substance. This is scripturally valid.

The woman who broke a jar of alabaster and poured it on Jesus lavished it on him. That perfume was very expensive and the disciples saw it as "waste". They thought what she did for Christ was too much and the money used for that should be given to the poor instead( Mt 26:7-9).

Jesus responded by saying, "But Jesus, aware of this, replied, “Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me?You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me" (Mt 26:10-11 NLT)

The implication of this is that there is a giving that should go to the poor because we'll always have them around us but there is another that should go to the man God is using to bless you. And nothing is too much to be spent on that teacher of the word blessing you.

Lack of understanding is the reason people withold from their teacher and discipler. Some may say, "he has enough, he doesn't need my gift or support". Statements such as this shows a gross lack of understanding. For some of us especially missionaries, what we get as gifts is shared among many.

You don't give to a man of God because of lack. You do it because you are obeying scriptures regardless of his condition. It is your christian duty to him, you are not helping him or doing him a favour.

To start with, do you have the account number of that person who has been a blessing to you? Ask for it, he'll gladly give you. He's been expecting you to ask. Genuine preachers find it easy to talk about ministry needs but rarely talk about their personal needs. They are two different things.

Action Point:

As the Lord blesses, give to your teacher. When he is traveling, you can pay his transport and ensure he is not lacking for the journey. You can pay his children's fees or rent. It is never too much to build for him if it is within your capacity. Let's support genuine men of God. Thank you is not enough, be a blessing.
