I use to know a very lazy guy who refused to work but prefer to live on his siblings. Anytime he gets a job, he'll find one excuse and quit. He is just plain lazy. I remember telling his younger brother not to disclose his salary to him or anyone of his siblings so they don't budget for him. Most lazy people love life but they are not ready to pay the price.
A child of God should not be lazy. In this kingdom, a lazy man cannot serve and walk with God effectively because it takes some hardwork and diligence to walk with God. In academics, business or career, a child of God should not be counted among lazy folks. It is totally against our ethos of living.
As a minister, laziness will kill your ministry. The work of ministry itself is hard work. It drains. It is beyond preaching but the processes leading to good & sound preaching is hard work. The learning, studying, praying and strategizing aspect of ministry is real work. You can't just be sleeping and waking up saying you're into full time ministry. It doesn't work that way.
In the opening text, the writer of proverbs gave strong recommendations to lazy people. He instructed they should go and learn from ants: [7] Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, [8] they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.
Hardwork is not a sin neither is it anti bible. The bible says, "Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!( Proverbs 14:23 NLT). Only lazy people do nothing while waiting for big jobs. The bible says work brings profit.
You cannot be sleeping at home, praying&fasting hoping the big job will land like ripe cherries. Sometimes, while doing small things, the doors of big opportunities open to us. I tell graduates, If you are not shamefaced, you will make money and live fine. There is no rule that says every graduate must do a white collar job. All collars are not white anyway.
As long as you're not stealing, cheating or doing what will harm humanity and pitch you against God, please do it as long as it pays the bill. Some of those jobs we look down on are the jobs that pays well. Often, we don't identify with it because it looks debasing but across the seas, people do it gladly. The problem is not the job but our mindset.
If you are hardworking, don't let anyone look down on you. Be diligent! If you don't have anything doing, find something doing. There are opportunities everywhere. If you can drive, you can apply to drive uber. There are people with cars looking for those who will use it for uber. Just find something and make good use of your time.
Laziness doesn't pay bills. Hardwork does.
