Phil1:29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,
I have heard a preacher say that we are not meant to suffer at all. That truth is one-sided; when you talk about sufferings like sickness, poverty, etc, yes we are not meant to go through those sufferings because Christ has included those things in his finished work on the cross neither are we to suffer as law breakers.
When we talk about suffering for Christ, we are referring to those discomforts that we go through because of our faith or believe in Christ. Any Christian that doesn't have a testimony of having suffered certain things for the sake of Christ has either not been obeying God or not even born again at all. Sacrificial instructions from God comes with suffering.
In our calling, there is suffering attached to it. Paul made it clear that we are granted to suffer for him not only to believe in him. A man that was earning huge amount of money who obeyed God's call into ministry would go through certain discomforts or suffering for obeying that instruction. In God, you can't rise to the top when you haven't learnt through suffering like our master Jesus Christ.
Heb5:8 Even though Jesus was God's Son, HE LEARNED OBEDIENCE FROM THE THINGS HE SUFFERED. NLT
Father, I receive grace to obey even when it brings a little suffering In Jesus name.
