HANDLING YOUR PAST

2 Corinthians 5:17 *This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!*( NLT)

I have met people who are greatly disturbed about their past. Some are living in guilt because of certain things they've done. They are finding it hard to move on in life because the shadows of their errors still follow them.

Some still go to God in prayers asking for forgiveness over and over because they carry around the weight of guilt. Satan keeps tormenting them with condemnation and telling them how bad they are. Unfortunately, some brethren still relate with such people from the standpoint of their past.

If you are in the category, you must understand that you cannot undo what you have done. You only need to seek God's forgiveness in faith and leave your past at the feet of Jesus. There is no sin too big for him to forgive.

Under the new covenant, God doesn't only forgive our sins, he forgets them. That is, he doesn't bring it up against us once we confess and forsake it. You can be sure that the voice of accusation you are hearing is not from God neither is the feeling of guilt from him.

Hebrews 8:12 says, "And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins"( NLT). Choose to believe the word of God over your feelings.

In some cases, If the blast from the past is causing problems in the present, you can restitute where possible and reconcile where necessary. All these must be done with caution, prayer and divine leading to fix some problems from the past threatening the present and future.

Another set of people are those regretting the bad decisions made in the past. This could be marital, career, choice of country of residence, friends and so on. I have met old men who are regreting their failure to take advantage of opportunities.

If you are in this category, understand that certain decisions cannot be reversed, you just have to learn or find ways to cope with it. You need to ask God for grace in this regard. His grace is sufficient for you.

Some opportunities lost may or may not come back but you can always maximize the moment and seek better ways to live. Watchout for fresh opportunities and open doors, God in his mercies will bring them your way again.

Stop fellowshiping with the pains of mistakes made in the past, you can only correct a few of them but today is one of the biggest opportunities given to you by God. Maximize it.

Action Point:

Father, I receive grace to maximize my today and leave the past where it belongs in Jesus name.
