THE BEAUTY AND GLORY OF THE WORLD TO COME

Revelation 21:1 *Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone* (NLT)

When was the last time you heard about heaven? In my early years as a believer, we heard messages about heaven and sang songs that made us long for our eternal home. Those songs brought a holy awe on us.

We left those services with joy and sobriety thinking Jesus would come the next moment. Today, this is no longer the case in most worship centres. I can't remember the last time I heard those kinds of old time messages.

One of those songs is titled "How beautiful Heaven Must be". Truly, heaven is beautiful. From what I read in the bible, I know in my heart that heaven is a place not a fiction of John's imagination. Hey! Heaven is beautiful. It is a place of comfort and rest after all our toils on this side of eternity.

There is no other book that describes aptly how the scenery of heaven looks other than the book of revelation. Revelation 21:21&23 says, "The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass.[23] And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light".

Who wouldn't want to live in a city whose gates are made of pearls and the streets are made of pure gold as clear as glass. I can imagine that will be a transparent floor If I'm to interpret that literally. God will be its source of light not any power company that can fail.

When we get to our eternal home, there won't be sickness, pain, anguish and death anymore. All of that would have been dealt with and we'll put on immortal bodies. Halleluyah!!!

I am glad to tell you every child of God knows their destination. Heaven is. It is one of the things we must remind ourselves to console and comfort those that are hurting. Hearing about heaven should make sad ones joyful. That is why Paul says, "Therefore encourage one another with these words"( 1Thes 4:18). Knowing you have a home in heaven should encourage you.

Action Point:

Are you discouraged? There is a beauty and glory ahead. Persevere in the faith and hold on to Christ steadfastly. This world is not ours because we have better promises about a world that is better than this one tainted by sin and filth. Maranatha!
