Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it"( KJV)
The scripture above is a common text used by preachers when preaching about proper upbringing of a child.
However, we must emphasize that for a child to walk in the way he should go, the parent must also walk on that way. Following someone walking on the way is easier than being shown the way by someone who is not walking on the same path.
Every parent desiring to raise godly seeds must be an example of what they want their children to be. The parenting principle is become for yourself what you want them to be.
Parenting cannot be outsourced. Taking them to sunday school is good. Allowing them partake in teens&youth programmes is perfect but none can be compared with your impact in their lives.
You must understand that you are the greatest influence in the life of your child(ren) not the pastor or sunday school teacher. Learn to always look inwards and stop pointing accusing fingers at someone else.
Walk on the way first and then show the way. That is the surest way to raise them to follow the way.
