DON'T FEEL TOO BIG TO ASK FOR HELP

Psalm 34:17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.

Years back, I was traveling to Benin city in the southern part of Nigeria. While in the bus, a fashionista young lady of senior secondary school age( SSS 3) was pressed but she refused to tell the driver to stop so that she can ease herself. She felt too big to ask for such in the public. Her mother saw that she was uncomfortable, she sought her permission to tell the driver to stop beside the bush for her but she blatantly refused. We all saw that she was uncomfortable but she held on till we got to the police check point where we were held in a mild traffic. She defecated on her body badly to the extent that we saw faeces on her body. Kind co travellers in the bus gave her satchet water to clean up and her mother removed her head gear to tie around her waist till we got to our destination because her trouser was meesed up. She blessed us with a bad stinking odour till we got to our destination. What a journey it was.

My assessment of the scenario was that she felt too big to ask for help. She was forming "big girl" as we say in this part of the world. I noticed the same trend even among God's children especially church leaders. In times and moments of struggles, because we don't want to appear as weaklings or as though we don't
have faith, we often hide behind the common mantra "It is well" when all is not well. The most common lies on the lips of some believers is "It is well" when all is not well. One would think they're expressing faith but deep within, they need help but they feel too big to ask for it. I love Paul. When he needed intercessory help, he said, "Brethren, pray for us",1 Thessalonians 5:25. This apostle was not a spiritual babe, arguably the greatest Christian in church history yet he asked for help.

Why keep mum when you can easily access help? I'm yet to find a man that is all-sufficient. God created us to be dependent in some areas. In all your spirituality, you'll need help at one point or the other. As anointed as Moses was, when he needed financial help for the ministry in the wilderness, he asked for it and he got it. Unfortunately, some don't even ask God for help. I love Peter. In Matthew 14:30, when he began to sank, he cried to Jesus for help: "But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted". The help you need may just be wise counsel or a single instruction that will turn your life around. Drop the toga of pride and speak out when necessary. Don't die in silence.
