HOW TO MAKE QUALITY DECISION Pt.1

Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

The first time I met the area pastor of my wife during our pre marital counseling in Akure, the first& only topic he treated with us in counseling centred on "decision". He stressed the fact that life outcomes is a function of our decisions. The choice to marry each other was our decision. Pastor Temi Ola said, "You can decide your actions but you cannot decide the outcomes"( paraphrase). In life, you don't determine outcomes but you can decide on the action that will produce the outcome.Often, we push the issue of decision- making to God but we fail to realize that God only leads but doesn't decide what we do for us. After we receive the leading of the Spirit, we can decide to obey or not. The greatest power God gave to man is the ability to decide a course of action. God didn't create a robot. Even the devil doesn't push any man into sin, it is man's decision to sin.

I read an article about a guy who took a hooker home. When they got on the bed, the lady told him she was HIV positive. Immediately he heard that, he lost his erection immediately. He thought about taking a risk by using double condoms but he changed his mind. He decided to allow the lady go in peace. It was his decision to have sex with the lady but he decided to quit when he saw danger. Even the demon of fornication couldn't push him against his will that night. It goes to show that there's no emotion or appeal to sin that we can't control. It all boils down to our decision. If you can decide well, you will live well. To make quality decisions, it starts with God. The writer of Proverbs3:5-6 says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight".

Those who relegate the leading of the Spirit will never make accurate decisions in life. A decision might look good but may not be the best. "There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death."(Proverbs14:12). I'm not a fan of those who are fond of saying, "you don't need God for certain things". My motto is that "I need God for everything". Jesus said, "without me, ye can do nothing"(John15:5). No matter how brilliant we are in life, we are limited in knowledge, that's why we need God. To make quality decisions in life, you need have listening ears and a discerning heart.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to make quality decision in Jesus name.
