HANDLING CONFUSION AND DIRECTION Pt.4

2 Tim 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

DEAL WITH FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN

After I settled in my heart that ministry is the way to go, the next thing that hit me was a high dose of confusion. This type of confusion was not a doubt about God's leading but a confusion that is rooted in fear of the unknown. The fear of what the future holds seeing others face their careers and forging ahead with life. I was gripped by the fear of the future because I wanted to secure it by my strength. Instead of setting out to fulfill my assignment the way I was sent and where I was asked to stay, I decided to modify it by relocating out of the country. I applied to a school in Europe and got admission but couldn't secure a visa. I submitted several international applications that were unsuccessful.

Surprisingly, a minister in the U.S.who knew nothing about my exit plans spoke to me saying, "The Lord said I should tell you, stay where you are". That struck me. I withdrew from all plans and I rolled my life over to the one who created it. Fear can make a man distort divine direction. For example, God may call a man into ministry to a rural or suburb setting but the fear of what to eat, drink and wear may cause him to relocate the ministry to the city centre where he is not sent thinking he may secure his future there. He may still be in ministry but at the wrong location due to fear of the unknown.

Fear is an enemy of divine instruction. Fear can make a man doubt God's voice and become deaf to the leading of the Spirit. Fear comes because we try to process every divine instruction with our five senses. In the sense realm, that's where our minds analyse the 'what' and 'how' trying to know how certain things work. However, the end result of trying to grasp spiritual instructions with the mind without the Holy Spirit produces a crippling fear. Refuse to allow the fear of unknown cripple you. What the Lord expect from you and me is obedience to His instruction, He knows how to take good care us. Fear not.
